Diabetes Project 2020 Presses On During The Covid-19 Pandemic

The Rotary Club of Portsmouth has been working hard to successfully distribute glucose meters along with test strips to help diabetes patients monitor their blood Sugar levels. The project was also to include an afternoon full of information along with music, yoga, aerobics as well as presentations about diabetes management/prevention and reversal at Benjamin Park. However, the scope of the project had to change due to our present crisis covid-19.

The President of Rotary club of Portsmouth Sari Prosper and Project Chair Lise Van De Kamp worked very closely with Nurse Brewster of the Portsmouth health district and FNP Magloire of the Marigot health district in identifying individuals to donate the monitors to. The nurses of different communities identified the persons who were the most in need of supplies. The Rotary club of Portsmouth purchased 18 monitors and 32 packets of strips from Jolly’s Pharmacy and were able to execute a door to door plan to deliver them personally.

This project was conceptualized last year around district conference when our present DG shared that he wants the clubs in the district to do a project about diabetes.  The project was funded by district 7030; a district grant of $1000 USD was used to complete the project.  We hope to continue to help spread the word and contribute to the reversal of Diabetes to the people of Dominica.
